This was one of my earliest pieces. Obsessed by Minkisi sculptures, I wanted to make my own. Rather than imitating them precisely, I experimented with different formats, such as 2D nkisi or, in this case, driving the nails inward. The egg, hanging in space on a crucifix of wire and surrounded by nails and thorns, also recalls Raushenberg’s music box sculpture. The figure is carved from wood and clad in roofing steel. The eye is a copper rivet.
