08 May Great Bowl O’ Fire at Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa, Osoyoos, BC
The Great Bowl O’ Fire Sculptural Firebowl™ at Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa, Osoyoos, BC is a rare 53 inch diameter firebowl. I’ve never been able to find a contemporary source for bowls that large but every couple years I come across one or two vintage oversized tanks to cut them from. The great size of this fire feature gives it a commanding presence in a large courtyard space when looking towards the resort buildings.
Seen from the other side, dark rattan couches and a backdrop of a wooden fence with staggered heights of board create a cozy space for resort guests to gather around the fire.
Beige tile, stone and cushions contrasted with the dark grey of the pedestal, fence and outdoor furniture create a very modern, two-tone color scheme that gives extra pop to the rust finish of the fire pit. Still the center of the space, but so well harmonized with the color scheme that everything ties together in the design of the outdoor space.
In this closeup of the firebowl, you can see what an intimate space has been created. What a perfect area to wind down after a day devoted to relaxation.
This dramatic shot of the firebowl on a full moon night includes three of the resort’s sculptures in the background. According to Canadian Geographic Travel, art pertaining to First Nations culture and sacred beliefs suffuses the landscape of the resort providing an opportunity for guests to learn more about the culture.
The Spirit Ridge property itself is dotted with an abundance of First Nations detail, from bilingual traffic signs in English and the local Okanagan language to dramatic iron, stone and wood-carved artworks of sacred creatures such as bears, eagles, salmon and turtles. Overhead, impressive figural sculptures depicting Indigenous imagery look out from rooftop perches. Collectively, these totems act as ever-present reminders of exactly who stewards this land.
I’m glad that this uncommonly large firebowl has found such a beautiful and respectful home.
