29 Jul Font O’ Fire Sculptural Firebowl at Hotel Indigo, Athens, GA
When Hotel Indigo Athens selected a fire feature for their outdoor courtyard, the Font O’ Fire Sculptural Firebowl was their first choice. The fire pit is hand made from 100% recycled steel and exemplifies a perfect expression of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship.
Hotel Indigo has won five nationally recognized building and design awards and is certified LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for it’s sustainable design and green practices. Farm-to-table cuisine at Madison Bar and Bistro and an art gallery featuring curated works by local artists are examples of the hotel’s commitment to local culture. Indigo’s general manager Barry Rutherford says, “We have very positive responses to our environmental initiatives…I’d say it’s recognized as cool by 50 percent of our guests.”
“The decision to pursue LEED status for Indigo began with the developers and we were brought onto that team because of our skills, aesthetic and shared interest in sustainability,” says senior designer and LEED project manager of Ellen Hanson Designs, Lisa Hargus. Hargus says the goal of Indigo was to communicate the mission of sustainable chic.
The Font O’ Fire warmed guests on chilly nights from the hotel’s opening in 2009 until a renovation ten years later re-envisioned the entire patio area (as well as much of the hotel’s interior). “It was always a hit and beautiful,” Abby Hicks, Director of Sales told me in email.
