20 Aug Custom Firebowl with nature motifs, 2007

This bowl was a commission for a neighbor who wanted the design to focus on the natural elements she observed daily in her yard. She elected to keep the the Phoenix and the hand from the Great Bowl O’ Fire, but everything else was a one-off tailored to her requests.

It was kind of a fun project because she visited the studio to watch the bowl being cut and offer suggestions… “How about a squirrel?” she asked, “There’s a squirrel who keeps me quite entertained every morning with his antics.” or “Lets add some fiddlehead ferns.” I would draw out each suggestion in chalk and when we had something we were both pleased with, I’d cut the steel.
