Big Bowl O' Zen Sculptural Firebowl at La Source Bains Nordiques, Rawdon, Quebec

La Source Bains Nordiques is a spa located in Rawdon, in the Lanaudière region of Québec. Amenities include steam bath, dry sauna, outdoor whirlpool tubs, Nordic waterfall and pools, a cold river for bathing, a thermal waterfall, a “dark room” inside the mountain, indoor relaxation areas, areas for meditation in the forest, massage therapists, and a Big Bowl O’ Zen 41 inch Sculptural Firebowl.

The upcycled steel fire pit blends perfectly into the forest’s palette of colors as well as being a logical extension of the spa’s intentional green design. The wood deck and chairs also seem to be a natural feature of the forest. Nestled into a space between a stone wall and a large outcropping of rock, guests can enjoy the fire without wind pushing the smoke towards them.

Alternating between hot and cold is the main focus of a Nordic spa, so the fire feature which can be enjoyed even on snowy days makes total sense. This quote from the spa’s website sums it up well:

Within a few hours, you will alternate between hot (steam bath, dry sauna, thermal waterfall and outdoor hot tubs) and cold (Nordic waterfall, Nordic baths or the pleasure of snow), and then go on to benefit from our indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, offering you a unique panorama from within the mountain itself!

Surrounded by nature, with mature trees, birds singing, the sounds of water and the warmth of a fire— what could be more relaxing?

Steel Fire Feature in forest setting

A sunny, snowy day makes the colors of the wilderness location sharp and bright.

The eco-modern architecture is designed to the highest green standards and inspired by the forest settings and exposed stone of Mont Pontbriand. The resorts commitment to minimizing their ecological footprint is seen in many elements of the design including geothermal power, efficient ventilation, a green roof, high performance windows, and insulation, as well as recycled raw materials (rock, soil, wood ) from the site itself. The facilities have been blended into the nature as if they’ve always been there, and some of the spa extends into the mountain itself.

The steam baths inside the mountain look absolutely magical.

Another room inside the mountain for quiet relaxation. The contrast of the rough natural stone face of the mountain with the smooth concrete walls and floor is aesthetically pleasing.
